Vietnam era thermo- isolated food containers know as “Mermite” boxes were favored by US troops , because drinks and food could be cool stored for a longer time. The closed boxes offered protection against insects and dirt too. The boxes can often be seen on Vietnam war pictures of vehicles and AFVs .
